Alicia Russell, born Alicia Irene Brush on June 4, 1945, died Saturday, August 16, 2020 in her home after a valiant battle with Cancer. Alicia was born to Robert and Irene Brush in Wichita, Kansas where her father was a dairy farmer. At the age of two, her mother was taken from her too early when she died in an automobile accident. Alicia was taken care of by her grandmother whom she fondly called Granny Mom. Her father eventually remarried a young widow, Naomi Lewis Crumbaker and the family, including Naomi's young daughter, Judy, moved to Rogers, Arkansas. There they established Brush Acres, a working dairy farm where Alicia worked helping her father and milking the cows. Alicia was a member of the local 4H club and active in school. In 1964, she was named the Arkansas Dairy Princess and went on to represent Arkansas in the National pageant in Chicago. She was a proud Alumni of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she majored in Food Nutrition and Health. She worked at Mercy hospital in Rogers as a dietitian. Alicia moved to Texas in 1971 with her husband, Marion Russell and their young son, Stephen. She worked at Doctor's Health Care Center in Lake Highlands for over 20 years. After Marion's death in 1992, she began seeing Jay Harrison who became her life partner and companion for over 20 years. Alicia worked at Buckner Retirement Center, carrying out the dream of Father Buckner by providing affordable, but quality healthcare for seniors, eventually retiring as the Executive Director after the east Dallas campus was closed. It was in the retirement community that Alicia thrived, caring for the elderly, their families and the many coworkers that became family, many of whom volunteered to care for her in her last days. Alicia Russell lived her life in pursuing her faith in Jesus and in helping those in need. She planned regular activities with the Buckner Association and the local community. She was on the Buckner Home Owners Association, hosting the local meetings. She collected clothing and house hold items for those less fortunate. She lived to serve family, friends and strangers alike. Anyone who knew her would agree she was an Angel on Earth, a beautiful person, both inside and out. Her sweet spirit and consistent phone messages and cards will be missed by many. Alicia is survived by Jay Harrison of Lake Highlands, her son, Stephen Russell and his wife, Apryl, her grandsons, Sterling Russell, Grayson Russell and Ryan Ray (of Lewisville, TX) as well as her brothers, Robert Brush and his wife Anne, of Rogers, AR and Paul Brush and his wife Pam, also of Rogers, and a host of extended family and friend. In accordance with Alicia's wishes due to the current Corona Virus Pandemic, there will not be a memorial service.
