Paul Fredericks Matthews was born June 15, 1966, in Milwaukee, WI and was called home to heaven by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 14, 2025.
He is survived by his daughter Amyah Brooks, brother Jeff (Renee), sister Reba (Rickey Johnson). Nephews: Aaron, Alondo, Travis, Jackson, Messiah, and Jayden. Nieces: Riane and Caprice. Joanna Brooks (mother of Amyah), Ellis Brooks (brother of Amyah).
Paul is preceded in death by his father Frederick A. Matthews, and mother Beverly A. Matthews.
Paul attended Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, WI where he participated in a variety of sports. The area however that he excelled in the most was engagement. Paul engaged others with an infectious personality, a gift of gab, a knack for putting people at ease and making others feel a part of whatever was going on.
Paul continued to hone these traits while attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison where the relationships he developed crossed all social lines. Paul was funny, could hold a conversation with anyone and tell a story like he was the reincarnation of “Mark Twain”.
We will miss him taking over the TV at holiday gatherings and trying to watch multiple games at the same time and giving commentary on all of them. We would love to be on the tee box with him one more time and hear him say as he pulls out his driver, “Time to let the big dog hunt”. The memories are countless and each of them very special, we will hold on to them and there by hold on to him for as long as we can.
There’s a line from one of my favorite movies, “It’s A Wonderful Life”. The line is, “No man is poor who has friends”. Paul was the richest guy you ever met.
While our hearts are heavy with the sadness of Paul’s passing, we take comfort and joy knowing he will be received into God’s kingdom where he will know peace for all eternity. (Except those occasions when he can’t get a Tee Time)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in Paul’s name to the American Cancer Society. (click the link below)

Paul was truly one of a kind. I got to know Paulnover a span of 10+ years, he always had a smile, a listening ear, and a heart that always cheered “Go Pack Go!” The world is truly a less brighter place without him. While this week we say goodbye, I look forward to meeting him again in heaven! Rest easy my friend!

To the Matthews family and friends, my deepest heartfelt condolences to each of you. Paul and I went to Rufus King H.S. both graduates of the class of 1984. He was always a gentleman and would light up a room with his smile. When I was told he passed away, my heart sank and my eyes filled with tears. I will forever hold on to my memories of Paul. God's peace be with each of you as you continue your journey. Know that Paul is smiling down on you. Gwen Horton, Classmate Rufus King High School 1984-Go Generals!
