H. Brooks Flynt

Hugh Brooks Flynt was born in Red Oak, Texas on November 22, 1926 to Woodie Roberson Flynt and Fannie Tabitha Brooks Flynt. Brooks passed away on May 21, 2023 in Rockwall, Texas.

Brooks grew up in the Red Oak and Ferris area. He married Betty Jo Rippy in 1948, and they enjoyed 72 years of faithful love and laughter together. Brooks and his family moved to Garland in 1954. He worked for Texas A&M Agricultural Extension Service (formerly the Texas Research Foundation) as the Accounting and Facility Manager for more than 30 years. Brooks participated in Garland Little League Baseball with his sons. He was a faithful member of Axe Memorial United Methodist Church for 69 years where he served in the choir and in a missionary quartet in the 1960s and 1970s. Brooks also served in the church’s food pantry ministry. One of Brooks’ greatest contributions to Axe Memorial UMC are the stained glass windows he created for the sanctuary, narthex, and breezeway that remain a visible testimony to his love for Christ and the Church.

Brooks’ family and friends remember him as a man of deep faith whose integrity and compassion characterized his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and generous grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with joy. Brooks was a gardener, a photographer, and a stained glass artist who created a welcoming, beautiful home that reflected his God-given talents. His dedication to his faith, his family, and his community leaves a legacy of love, service, and excellence.

Brooks Flynt is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Flynt; parents; brother Harold Flynt; sister Mary Carter; brother Woody Flynt Jr.; and a great grandson, Nathan Johnston.
