Hey there Buglet, I’ve been staring at this page trying to figure out what I to say (if we are being honest, this isn’t the first time I’ve stared at it). The space they give you here is nowhere big enough to tell you all the things I’d want to tell you and a part of me knows that you already know everything I would say anyway. You’re my first for a lot of things. My first child, my first and only daughter, the first time I really felt true love for somebody, the first time I was ever really scared to lose a person, and unfortunately, you carried the burden of a lot of my first mistakes. I am so sorry for all the mistakes. And if I could take all of that back, I really hope you know I would. Despite everything that we’ve been through together, you always forgave me and I always forgave you. I was so excited for you to come home finally. I’ll look through our old Snapchat of how we used to be goofy together and I miss you so much and I was so happy I was gonna get another chance to make so many more memories with you but now I’m just so angry that we’ll never have that chance. I never got to give you a final hug. I never got to say a final. I love you. I know it wasn’t possible for me to be there for you because of the decisions that were made, but somehow I still feel super guilty for not being there to comfort you and your last moments to let you know it was OK to go and then I understand how much pain you’re in and how long you fought. That I understand how scared you were to come home not because you’re not loved but because it’s a lot of pressure to change and to heal. I haven’t really let myself breakdown. The logical side of my brain knows but there’s the other side that just keeps telling my heart that any moment I’m gonna get a collect call. And I’m gonna hear you’re perfect voice so excited to talk to mama. I feel like I failed you in so many ways. I know you would tell me not to and I know if you were here you tell me stop crying that you’re not hurting anymore that you’re okay and that you’re waiting for me. Then you’d probably make some silly faces or tackle me on the bed and tickle me until I started laughing. I blame myself for not leaving work early. When I knew you were getting out, I thought it would take longer for you to be processed and I had plenty of time. I was so excited to stop to get gas and the fact that I remembered to pick up a Butterfinger for you cause that’s all you wanted me to bring you. I was heartbroken when they said that you were already gone and that you were released three hours earlier. I want you to know I did go looking for you. I was so convinced that you were just somewhere close. I hate myself for not staying and continuing to search the next day. I hate myself for being angry with you that night for leaving and not having the strength to just say it to my face that you weren’t ready. I will always feel guilty even when people tell me not to. I’m your mother I was supposed to do better. I was supposed to protect you. I love you so fucking much and I don’t know what I’m gonna do and I never hear your voice calling me again. I picked out some of my favorite clothes that you used to steal to send you away in if I can’t hug you in this life, I just hope that somehow you feel that I’m with you in the next. I’m so sorry you were in so much pain. I’m so sorry that so many people hurt you in it I couldn’t help. I will take relief in knowing that you’re not hurting anymore and I know I will see you again one day but that just seems so far away. Thank you so much for every lesson you gave me, for every way you’ve made me a better parent for your son, and thank you for so many happy memories of you smiling and laughing and singing, and just being yourself I loved it when you were just yourself. You are my bestest friend the person that was always closest to me, the person who never judged me and who always no matter what accepted me for me. You were always there to let me know that everything would be OK as long as we had each other. I’m scared to go on no way I no longer have you. I hope you know I love you so much, baby girl, and I hope you can see me whenever you want. And I hope and pray that I will feel your presence every single day in the simple things of life. I love you, Katie, get some rest finally. Love, Mama
