John Payton Ralston of Terrell, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2026.
John was known by many as “Big John.” He had a remarkable memory, a generous heart, and a laugh that filled a room. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, his sense of humor, and his ability to recall details, dates, and stories that others had long forgotten.
John enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved sharing conversations and memories. A natural storyteller, he took great joy in spinning tales that brought people together. He was also a man of service, having proudly served as a community leader in Balch Springs. He faced many challenges throughout his life with determination and resilience.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Ann Ralston, parents, Norman Clark Ralston and Edna Dell Ralston, and his sister, Boerne Lyn Whitworth. He is survived by his sister, Cindy Renae Steed, along with nieces and nephews — to whom he was a beloved Uncle John — as well as extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
The family would also like to express their appreciation to Sarah, who provided care, companionship, and support to John during the later years of his life. Her kindness and dedication meant a great deal to him.
